Tater Tots

When I was 16, I wanted a job. I went and got my food handler’s
license and started applying for jobs at local fast food restaurants.
I was hired by a local Sonic. My first and last day on the job, the
manager showed me around. While giving me a tour of the different
work areas, he showed me where the frozen tater tots were and picked
one up. As he went to put it back on the shelf, he dropped it.
Instead of throwing it away, he actually put it back on the shelf.
After picking my jaw up off the floor, I grabbed it, and the ones
around it, threw them in the trash, pulled off my work shirt, and
walked out the door. I worked there all of 10 minutes. On my way
home, I got another job at a chicken restaurant. I worked there for 2
years.

Not For Me

On my first day of work at a truck rental place, I was handed a
check and told my first task that day would be to go downtown and
bail out my coworker, who was in jail for sexually assualting the
last female co-worker that worked with him.

My first day was my last.

Tag Team Back Again

I work at a company that focuses primarily on college attire in a
stricly college town. One organization called our company to get a
donation. The preceeded to call, and call, and call, and then call
some more. Not only did this one lady call a million times to check
on her donation, she had her son call, and call, and call, and then
email. It was amazing. Finally after shipping out their donations my
boss said…

“I got tag-teamed by an awful mother/sun duo.”

Pencil It In

Many years ago I was a young stupid high school student who believed
everyone, even bosses, was really good deep down, and no one was ever
truly malicious.

Then I got a job at a casual dining restaurant, and the owners did me
the favor of changing that. I had some unexpected medical problems and
had to take time off for doctors’ visits. I always gave at least a
week’s notice, but would routinely get yelled at for missing shifts.
After that I always made sure I watched the owners write my requests
on the calendar.

I had to take a full week off for family business, and I told the
owners a full month ahead of time. I watched them write down the
dates on the calendar. Then when the schedule came out, I had shifts
every day of my week off. The owners told me I lied to them about
requesting time off, and showed the calendar for proof. My request
was there, but clearly had been erased.

The next job I had, I made sure the scheduler only used pens.
