My actual boss is absent most of the time so one of the guys in my
small team has taken it upon himself to be the “acting manager”.
Problem is, he’s an unprofessional douche.
Yesterday he pulled me aside for a chat that started with “Now it’s
none of my business what your home habits are, but you look very
sleepy when you come in every morning…” before degrading to “You
look like you’ve had 400 Kilograms of heroin.”
I was seriously being busted for not being perky enough in the
morning. I work on an IT help desk, since when was perky a prerequisite for
employment? I pointed out that 400 kilograms of heroin was enough to kill a small
nation.
His response was “Reality doesn’t need to be a factor in his
argument.”

Props to you for the snappy comeback regarding the heroin dosage.
I guess its not unprofessional to show up to work half asleep and in a shitty mood. Take a shower, have a cup of coffee and get to work.
I would’ve said, “you’re not my boss, so back up out of my face.” This isn’t a bad boss story. This is an obnoxious coworker story.
Again, Chris does not know what common courtesy is.
Any conversation that starts off with – it’s none of my business – then its none of your business and should not be said.
Is the “acting manager” named Dwight Shrute?
Common courtesy is not showing up to work half asleep enough times that it warrants a conversation Jackie.
is your co worker’s name dwight shrute?
I believe if it really were a problem, I believe someone that were REALLY in charge would’ve said something. If the work’s getting done correctly in a timely manner, yawn away.
Chris, just because he said she looked like she was on heroin does not mean she showed up to work half asleep or in a shitty mood. Either way, it is not his place to address her in that manner at all since he is not her boss.
If there is no face-to-face customer interaction and the workload is being completed to adequate standards then there’s no problem.
He doesn’t sound to work in a job where people are paid to look pretty. As long as his appearance does not offend other workers then he’s fine to look a bit sleepy.
Wow. Chris talking about someone being in a shitty mood. That’s rich coming from Mr. Negative himself.
Chris are you one of those picky bosses that has no clue how to treat your employees??
The ‘douchebag’ is the one who deserves the conversation or something worse, you do not treat co-workers or employees that way.
This conversation should never have taken place due to the fact the person speaking has no authority and if it was the actual boss it should have never been brought up in that manner, just another person with a title that has no common sense or couth
LOL, sounds like something Dwight would say.,
Again, gotta agree with Chris. Somewhat. It’s true, the conversation shouldn’t have taken place. But the OP is in IT, and I farking hate it when someone in IT takes out their crap on me. So maybe the acting boss misinterpreted things. Anyway, I loved loved loved the “Reality doesn’t need to be a factor in his argument.”
He didn’t bust you; he just asked if you were okay and expressed concern for your well being. You are a jerk and you shouldn’t be allowed to talk to people.
