I Think You’re Crazy

My boss for the last eight years had always been a pretty good person
to work for. But a year ago he went through a bad divorce that made
him act really strange. Almost like he had gone crazy. He would come
to work with mismatched suits or his hair wasnt combed or didn’t wear
a belt, etc. His job performance started to suffer.

Then one day, he wasn’t in his office but the Big Boss was there. He
called everyone into the meeting room before we all got started on
work. He told us the our boss had been really stressed out and was
placed on a paid leave so he can relax and get his mind together.

All that was fine and we were glad to hear he’s getting some rest to
get things back in order. But one day, I walked into the Big Boss’s
office to drop off some paperwork. He was in there, sitting in his
office chair and was turned away from the door. He didn’t see me come
in. He was on his phone talking to someone. I overheard him say that
he had called the psychiatric hospital and acted as a family member to
have our boss committed.

Turns out, he was indeed committed involuntarily at a mental hospital
right outside of town. Even though he received treatment and was
feeling much better, he sued the hospital and our company for this
happening without consent.

Needless to say he doesn’t work here any more because he quit when he
sued. Last I heard he was trying to open up his own small business
doing something similar to what we do. I wish him the best!

Up In Flames

10 years ago I was working for a man who cared only about money. He
worshipped the almighty dollar and hated anyone who messed with his
plans to earn more money. Thankfully I’ve always been a pretty healthy
person, so being out sick was never a concern. I was always on time
and did the job he expected of me. One night I awoke when my smoke
detector was going off. It must have been going off for quite some
time before I was roused from sleep, because by the time I awoke the
flames were in the hallway right outside my bedroom door. I threw on
my slippers, popped the screen out of the window, and slid outside to
safety. I ran to the neighbor’s house and called 9-11. By the time the
fire department arrived it was too late. My house and everything in it
was gone. I was devastated. A neighbor allowed me to sleep on their
couch that night, though I wasn’t able to go back to sleep. I just
laid there and cried. The next morning I called my boss to tell him of
the fire. He replied, “Ok, I will see you at the office at 8.” I
didn’t have any shoes, clothes, car keys–everything was in the house
but the pajamas I was wearing and my slippers. My neighbor once again
came to my rescue and let me borrow a few things. I was 5 minutes late
and the boss met me with a stern glare. I was anxious to talk to my
insurance agent so rather than waiting until lunch I called as soon as
he opened his office. After the phone call my boss called me back to
his office and told me if I had one more personal phone call he would
be letting me go. A half hour later my insurance agent called me back
to clarify some detail about the house and my boss made true on his
promise. Dick.

The Youth Center

When I was a teenager, I used to be a life guard at a local “religious
youth center”. The center was located in an undesirable part of town
and the building was very old. Because of this we were subjected to
scattering rodents and cockroaches in the pool area every morning we
turned on the lights.

Our boss refused to let us wear shoes while working, his excuse being
we can’t have anything weighing us down in case of a rescue. Combine
this with rodent/cockroach droppings and it isn’t a surprise that I
started feeling sick one summer day.

After being sick for a week with no improvements, I went to the
emergency room. It turns out I have a raging staph infection in my
leg. 2 months in the hospital, 1 week in ICU, 7 surgeries, 2 skin
grafts, and 547 stitches later and almost losing my leg I return to
work, hoping for maybe a hero’s welcome…I did go through quite a
lot.

The first day back my boss calls me into his office, to FIRE me! His
explanation was due to my injuries, they were not confident in my
ability to rescue anyone.

I did try to sue the hell out of this “youth center”, but it was
impossible to come up with any concrete proof that I caught the
infection there. They even fought my unemployment case, bastards.
After all of this, I ended up converting to another religion.

Unedited For Your Enjoyment

I used to work for a construction company that had the worst
boss/owner and the most idiotic employees I have ever seen. The
employees were all wussies and snitching cowards, they were all from
his same background and from the same european country (I’m in
Canada). This company expected to see you moving every minute of the
10-hour shift and not take a rest. You also had to oil and grease
equipment 15 minutes prior to working and NOT get paid for it, in your
own time. I had no problem with that because I’m not a slacker but
what p*ssed me off was another stupid policy they had.

If it was raining in the morning you were expected to show up at the
jobsite and wait 2 hours to see if the rain stopped or not. Now get
this, you were NOT paid for those 2 hours regardless if you worked or
went home. I asked one of the foreman’s why I was missing 2 hours from
my paycheck and he said “You don’t get paid for sitting inside your
car in the rain”. I said to him, “Excuse me? So why the f*ck you made
me stay in the rain then? Next time just send me home”.

This boss was so mean that when the company bought 2 crew trucks he
had the radio and the AC disabled. He said that it promoted laziness
and slackiness because workers took longer breaks.

The last straw came on a fateful friday night, I had worked over 15
hours that day doing an emergency “concrete pouring” in a building and
the boss Elio came and told us at 10:00pm at night that we had to come
to work saturday. It so happens that exactly on that day I was
supposed to pick-up my wife and kids from the airport, they were
coming overnight from another country. I told him if I could start
work at 9:00am instead of 7:00am because at 7:00am my wife would
arrive at the airport. He told me “Hey, in this company we start at
7:00am, stay home if you can’t show up at 7:00am”. I told him, “Okay,
here’s your f*cking shovel, see you later” and threw a shovel I had in
my hands at his feet.

I made the best decision ever leaving that sh*tty company, now I make
70% more money in a job that I don’t do that hard physical work and
that the boss is a nice person for a change. Cheers!
