Fashion Show
I work for a woman who makes the movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ look
like a dream job. She has used her father’s connections, her looks
and possibly sex to move herself along the company ladder. Now in a
management position, she spends her days on the phone with family and
friends, has weekly hair and nail appointments and works out with a
trainer all on company time. She uses gift cards and gift
certificates that our company has in trade like her own personal
spending acccount. She walks around the office every morning and
expects us to compliment her on her outfits and if you don’t tell her
she looks nice, pretty, etc. you get the evil eye and are on her shit
list. If you are not dressed to the nines like she is there is a
TON of snide remarks. She told a co-worker that there must have been
a HUGE sale at Wal-Mart because so and so finally wore a new pair of
shoes. The person in question dresses quite nicely and I’m pretty
sure not even her underware comes from Wal-Mart!
If you have a problem and report it to her (she is the manager) she
treats you like an idoit. My favorite quote “I don’t understand why
you come to ME with customer problems, there is NOTHING I’m going to
do about it! I hired you people to deal with such trival things!”
Mind you she has to sign off on certain things we do, but we are
supposed to handle trival things on our own. She is the last one in
the office in the morning and recently screamed at me for leaving at
5 o’clock. I told her my hours are from 9 to 5 and her reply, I’m
here after 5 most days obviously you lack the dedication I have for
this job! Ok lady, you also come in around 9:30 and somedays leave and
are gone for 2-3 hours getting your hair done, but I’ll sit around for
awhile with you for free!!!

Seriously, I agree with Moe. There’s nothing more pathetic that a woman’s jealousy of her better looking, better dressed, more successful friend who can trade on her good looks to get what she wants. It couldn’t be more obvious if it was tattooed on your forehead.

Yeah…you come off a bit jealous. Just kiss ass like she did and maybe one day you’ll be in her position. Do whoever you have to.
It’s always tough when you’re dealing with a brat (and an especially good-looking one, apparently) who has high connections. The politics involved in reacting to her in a negative way, such as pointing out her hypocrisy, will end up with you losing in the end.
Unfortunately, there is nothing in employment law that I can think of that stops a manager from being a b*tch. However, recognize that this is a game that she is playing and she is playing to win. The best thing to do is to play the game smarter and more strategically than her. Give her the compliments on her attire to help her with her obviously low self-esteem, don’t engage with her when she pokes fun at your co-workers, and let her think that she knows everything about anything. Always take the high road. Make sure your record stays as clean as possible, because in my experience, people like this don’t stay in power for too long if there’s anyone in upper management who picks up on her BS. Don’t become “part of the story” when it comes to her shenanigans.

Anyway, it’s unfortunate, but this happens all the time in business. The best you can do is work your butt off, do your best, and wait for karma to take effect!
I dont think you’re jealous, i think shes a ridiculous, spoiled, little bitch, and you deserve to feel frustrated becaue you hafta deal with her selfish behavior every day. good luck! i know i may have come up with a way to really piss her off by now and get me fired, like dressing like a homeless person and refusing to brush my hair for a week….I would definately love to do stupid things around her to see how upset i could get her.
I always hated bosses that expect you to work thru a lunch break or to stay late for free if you’re an hourly employee.
I don’t see how this is jealousy. A slut is getting over on everyone. Usually sluts are pretty dang ugly – big honking hooked nose, flat chested, acne scars – they just put out a lot and therefore get more then the nice girls.
The slut needs to be reported and fired.
There’s an old saying – “You can fool the people over you, but you can never fool the people under you.” She’ll get hers , eventually.
Just like always, the nasty troll commentors are on the loose. Just because the OP is tired of the manager’s BS doesn’t mean he/she is jealous. Who even knows if the OP is a female? Sure, it can be assumed, but gender of the OP was not specifically noted. Being tired of somebody’s BS making your workday a living hell does not mean you’re jealous just because said person is good looking.
It’s tough when you have an incompetent person like that to deal with. No one can understand it unless they go through it themselves. It’s not jealousy – you’re sick of it.
I worked for lawyers who were like that. I got written up for wearing two radically different pairs of black pants within a two week period. I was accused of wearing sweats, when it was an Armani suit – the list is endless. I got a better job and then they laid off lots of people and went way downhill. My old boss was eventually arrested for embezzlement. People like her can only go so far after a certain age, then they are looked down on as old and useless. Don’t worry it will happen to her.

What’s her problem? I never understood why people who spent a significant portion of their time trying to look “better” than everyone else are always knocking other women on top of it. They’re not really that confident I guess.
