When I was 16 and in high school I worked for a fast food restaurant.
One day about 10 minutes before my shift ended, I was ringing up an
order and someone came running in yelling at me, then slid over the
counter, put a gun to my head, and demanded I open the register for
him. An assistant manager and I were the only ones up front and she
came over and opened it for him, with him now pointing the gun at
both of us. After banging me in the head with the gun, he grabbed a
handful of money and ran out. The next day the manager called a
meeting to discuss with everyone what happened. This asshole said in
front of everyone that it should have been handled better
because I didn’t ask him if he wanted anything with it!? Like fries
or a drink…what?? Why would I do that and what would that
accomplish?! He doesn’t say anything about the gun to my head and the
fact that I didn’t panic and no one was hurt. Jerk!
The upside was the moron who robbed us did it in broad daylight and
was follwed by a customer, who witnessed the whole thing, to an
apartment complex next door where he lived. He ended up getting
arrested for robbery AND assault for hitting me in the head. Ha!
Crime doesn’t pay and neither does working for stupid people.

OMG that’s horrible. Your boss should be reported and fired for that. Yeah, the guy went in there with a gun because he wanted fries. And you didn’t offer them to him. Yeah okay, sure, whatever you say. Could’ve handled the situation better? How? Refuse to give the guy money and get shot? You should report the boss to the labor board.
::headdesk:: that’s ridiculous. not to mention that asking him anything might have gotten you shot.
I would hope, that instead of being stupid, your boss had a really dry sense of humor and was simply being sarcastic.
bullshit.
Okay I’m gonna go ahead and call Bulls&@t on this one. No way, no how. BS!
Aren’t people supposed to keep QUIET and do as told? Don’t want to make the guy mad with stupid questions.
The Manager there was clearly and idiot.
I’m calling BS here. No matter how bad a manager is, NO manager will be yelling at someone who was robbed because they didn’t ask if the robber “wanted anything to go with that.”
As a joke, maybe, but no way as serious.
You should always offer each customer condiments. Give them ketchup with their money next time.
Absolute BS. You’ve taken what was probably a true story and embellished the hell out of it. Quit making up shit dude.
Get out the shovel the bullshit’s deep today.
Yeah, I’m adding my vote under the “BS” column.
Im guessing the OP doesn’t understand any sort of dark humour.
And are you really all butthurt because the meeting was held to discuss what happened and most likely go over procedure and not to congratulate you on your bravery?
Uhhhh, genius, your boss was MAKING A JOKE. A bad joke, but a joke nonetheless. Good lord get a sense of humor.
ummm there is literally no way this is true
bullshit, 100%
I’m going to assume the OP has no purpose to make this up… (why would anyone get any satisfaction about making up a story where your name is not added to a post?)
As I’ve been the victim of a hold-up (back in jr. college when I was a late nt hotel clerk).. the last thing I want after the fact is my boss “JOKING” about what i did wrong in terms of what I didn’t give them, when I had a gun held to the back of my head.
Did the boss think it was an attempt to lighten the mood? Maybe.. but to do it in front of your fellow employees is not just “Bad humour” (if that’s what he was trying for… ) it was bad taste.
I call BS on this one.
Lighten up Francis. The guy made a weak attempt at a joke.
If it was in fact a joke, it was in EXTREMELY poor taste. I’d report to have him at least moved somewhere where his idiotic sense of humor isnt affecting anyone.
Why do people always call BS when they just don’t like what people have said? Just because you don’t like what was said or can’t stand the idea of someone being cold and callous doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
I’ve met plenty of people who view their employees as expendable and wouldn’t have taken a second thought if one of them had been shot in this situation.
No way. Not even as a joke. This one it total BS.
Seriously, people. Read over your story and at least see if it sounds plausible before you publish.
This is total BS! Bad humor and bad judgment on the story itself.
Kathy T seems to have hit this one of the head if the story is true.
FAKE
I’ve been through two armed holdups and train staff in Armed Holdup and Bomb Threat Awareness as part of my role.
To those who are calling BS: you have no idea how insensitive people can be after an armed holdup. Managers think they are doing their job and customers think they are being funny. In this case it is completely plausible that the boss said this. I’ve heard worse.
To those of you calling BS – robberies happen all the time. I was robbed at gunpoint at my apartment complex a few years ago (needless to say I moved shortly thereafter), and although armed robberies have not occurred at my job, the fast-food restaurant and the gas station on the corner near my job have been robbed a combined total of 6 times in the 4 years that I have worked here. Also, whether the manager was being serious or joking (and I know people who would make comments like that in all seriousness), the comment was completely out of line. As someone who has been robbed, it’s extremely stressful in the days, weeks, and months that follow, and the last thing you want is people making jokes or sarcastic remarks.
@Melissa: Good point! When I was in college, the area I lived in had a 24-hour convenience store on the corner, and no less than three highways that intersected nearby for a convenient getaway. It got robbed so often, it became known as the “Stop and Rob”. It didn’t help that every police officer that was on duty would invariably be at the Whataburger at the other end of town at that time of morning. The running joke was, “It’s 3 a.m. Don’t dial 911, dial Whataburger.”
So your complaint is that when you experienced a traumatic event your boss made a (quite witty, actually) harmless joke in order to lighten the mood. Okay.
