This is something I remember from a job, many years ago. I was
working at a Mexican restaurant, at the time. There was one
particular manager that you either liked him or hated his guts.
Seemed like there was no middle ground.
Everyone that worked in the kitchen, as well as the bus boys, always
got along with him. We could joke with him & everything. A few of us
would get off the clock meetings with him, in the cantina, which
usually involved getting drunk.
Anyway, the waitresses never seemed to get along with the manager.
During one shift, it started coming out that one of them was accusing
the manager of stealing money out of her purse, which was in the break
room. The break room was hardly secure. Anyone could easily get in
there, rummage through a few things & bail out before getting
caught.
Many of us had serious doubts about the accusation, as there was no
real proof (none that any of us knew about). The manager was
eventually fired over the incident.
I didn’t think much of it, long after that, knowing that he would
recover pretty quickly, anyway.
A few years had gone by when I saw this same boss on the news.
Apparently, on the next job he took, it didn’t take him long to start
embezzling money from the job. Over the course of 2 years, he managed
to swipe somewhere between $250,000-$300,000.

Holy commas.
Damn…took them 2 years to catch it?
it honestly took them 2 years to catch it. i heard there was a private investigator checking into suspicions the owners had, for awhile. not sure if there was any truth to it, though.
I think this manager was trying to keep some of the staff sweet by being their pal so they wouldn’t betray him. Just my feeling. “That manager took the money? No way. He’s such a great guy.”
There was a big scandal in Australia recently where one lady managed to embezzle $26,000,000 (26 million!) from a company she worked for over the course of 10 years. 200k is nothing.
The fact that the guy stole from the next job does not prove that he was the one who had been taking the waitress’ money, though it certainly doesn’t help his case.
That, was, funny, Pam.
