Mrs. Yuck

Back in the day, I had a boss who was very inconsistent with what she
wanted and her mood changed with the breeze. I was an ad copywriter
and she was the Director of Advertising. One day she rejected one of
my ads with a big frowny face drawn on the top with a tongue sticking
out and YUCK!! written below.

The next day I resubmitted the same ad copy word for word. Her
response, “Much better! You’ll figure it out sooner or later.”

Later that week, her car keys (which also included her house key)
were left lying on her desk. Somehow they ended up being thrown up in
the rafters in the back storage room.

Maybe she’ll figure it out sooner or later.

  1. Hahaha!! I tell you what… karma will always come back at people! Good story.

  3. I had a boss that was similar to that. You always had to have two copies of something you submitted to him. First, submit the one you really want so he could reject it. Then submit another so he could reject that. The, resubmit the first one, which would finally be perfect.

  5. EPIC WIN!

You should save your boss the artistic talent and just buy some Mr. Yuck stickers. ;)

  7. I knew that woman. she went home that night and didn’t have her keys. She was walking to a payphone to call for help and was savagely beaten and robbed. That story was on TV and the police are trying to figure out who threw her keys up there. Thank you for the confession.

  9. Somehow, ludacris, I don’t believe you.. I mean, how did she get home in the first place if she didn’t have her car keys? Plus, only this person here knows where the keys are, so how would the police know that they were in the rafters?

  17. Wow that response (stealing and hiding her keys) was clearly disproportionate to her being inconsistent. I have worked for one of the most flighty persons in the world, but I hardly see this as a healthy, corrective response.

Did you ever stop to think of the repercussions for her? How do you not know that she needed to get to visit her mother in the hospital, after work, who has been told she only has days or weeks to live. The world is much bigger than ourselves. Think for a minute.

While it may be insanely frustrating putting up with her, you have no idea what she is going through at work, in her personal life, etc. We ask for empathy from our supervisors, but it is rare that we rarely give it willingly to them.

  19. *it is rare that we willingly give it to them.

I apologize for the grammatical error.

  21. Maybe that’s why she wrote, “Yuck.” Cause her mother is in the hospital and she’s disgusted with life. Meh, good riddance. Why would anyone write yuck? Surely there is a more appropriate response if you’re not satisfied with someone’s work? Besides, in a position like that, she can pay for new keys. Wah wah, Elle.

  23. Elle is right. Yea it sucks to have someone act like a child, but this doesn’t make Op any better than her for being a child and throwing the keys into the rafters. While its flighty and stupid, there are other avenues to approach before you do something truly mean to someone.

  25. HA. LudaCris – You got told!!

  27. Hiding her keys somewhere in her office, yes. Throwoing them where she can never find them, idiotic.

  28. Piper on November 19th, 2010
  29. That is stupid. I don’t believe you retaliated at all. If you did, you are the loser here by acting so immature. You broke into her office and stole her personal property, absconded with it, and then attempted to hide/manipulate/destroy any and all evidence. You are a liar, or someoen that needs to be locked up because you clearly are emotionally andmentally unstable to lash out at something as benign as “Yuck”
