Multi-Tasking

During an exit interview (aka, being fired), I told my boss and the
HR director that I was currently doing the job of 4 people and that
is why I’m recently always tired and late and blah blah…

The HR director’s response: “Well if you’re not comfortable doing 4
people’s jobs, then you shouldn’t work here.”

  1. Yeesh. I’m probably going to get fired soon for that same thing. Gee, you give me enough work for 4 people, tell me do my best! then wonder why I’m behind??
You’re better off wherever you are!

  3. Wow. I guarantee those two have never done the work of 4 people! They would be the ones to complain about having to do someone else’s job. Period.

  5. I think I used to work at the same place…oh no, that’s right, I didn’t have an exit interview. I put in my two weeks’ notice and they fired me two days later. Guess they showed me….? Anyway, why would they have an exit interview, that would indicate they cared what I thought.

  7. @ P.O.’d: Based on your saying that they fired you 2 days after submitting your notice, you’d then be eligible for Unemployement Compensation (which you become eligible for when terminated involuntarily for any reason not involving gross misconduct), AND would possibly be eligible for the full pay of the rest of the time within your notice period. Might be too late now, but for others reading this in a similar situation, call an attorney if you’re not sure…

  13. If so I also didn’t get my exit interview…probably for the same job…..

  14. Whatever on April 2nd, 2010
  15. Why didnt you talk to your boss BEFORE he had a chance to fire you? I mean, if you were late a few times and couldnt keep up with the work, why didnt you talk to him about it, instead of continually being late, and they complaining about getting fired??

  16. just-me! on April 4th, 2010
  17. why the hell would you give an exit interview if you are fired? when you go to unemployment and put those reasons down, the bosses will already have heard them and planned their defense.

  19. Boy does this sound familiar… This was me too. I was fired for ranting about it on facebook. I did the work of probably 5 or more people though.

  21. @Ben, that is why you don’t put ANYTHING on facebook you wouldn’t want your boss to know about. Ranting, pictures, or otherwise. Some companies frequently check their employees facebook pages; some are even starting to ask people to open up their facebook pages for them during interviews. Sure the person could lie and say they don’t have facebook, but the company always checks to see if their lying; even if one has the highest security measures, the company can and will find them.

  23. Ben, Ben, Ben…I don’t know where to begin…but we’re obviously NOT allowed to have the freedom to express our opinions anymore without being subject to disciplinary action…

  24. Oh Noes! on May 17th, 2010
  25. @BOFH2: I thought of Target immediately also. Sounds like a typical response from the bullseye corporate drones.
