When I was training for my job at the library, I was told taking
fines for overdue materials would be a part of it. My boss
half-heartedly trained me and showed me how to handle payment with a
debit card. We had to hit the ‘No Sale’ button to get the register to
open to put in our copy of the receipt. At the end of each day, we
printed out summary reports from the register and my boss would take
the register and the receipts and double check the reports that
printed up, just to make sure everything, money and receipts, were
accounted for.
Each report had the patron’s name and a receipt number printed next
to it. The ‘No Sale’ receipts had the next receipt number in sequence,
but had bold letters next to it saying “NOSALE”, clearly indicating
it was a debit transaction. Simple enough, right? Er, no.
So my boss called me near the end of a day, and she literally
screamed at me about how half of my receipts are missing, and how could I
be stupid enough to lose six receipts! That day, I’d had six
transactions with the debit machine, so I started to worry that my
receipts really were missing.
I go in and look at the report my boss is frantically pointing to,
and every single receipt number that was “missing” also had a
“NOSALE” printed next to it. When I pointed this out to my fuming
boss, she snapped at me with, “Well, how am I supposed to know what
no sale means!?”
I didn’t point out that she was the one who trained me.

Who still uses an actual library? As far as I’m concerned if google can’t find it then it doesn’t exist.
Chris, you read books and magazines in google? That sounds much easier than checking them out at the Library.
Therefore you will remain as you are Chris. Totally Ignorant.
I guess now i know who goes to the library huh. Yeah i guess searching endlessly through microfiche is much more efficient than using the internet or google. But im ignorant? wow z u need a drink or something life’s just not that serious.
@Chris: Hate to be another person narking on you, but a lot of people (myself included) hate to read more than two large paragraphs off of a screen. It’s not that we can’t find it online, it’s that we like it better in our hands and on paper.
I didn’t know all fiction books were found for free in google. Next time I want to read a Tom Clancy book for free I’ll just search google.
I’m not a fiction guy. Movies are cool but if i’m going read something i like to read about real people places or events. Just my opinion but i’m sure you guys will shit on me for that too. BTW notice how Ive never insulted a poster, yeah i take shots at the people in the “true” stories but that’s it. But keep it coming guys it helps my day go by faster.
Lol, wow, can this Chris guy be any more of an idiot?
I go to the library once a week and pick up around 5 or 6 books for myself and my daughter.
So, are you going to suggest my infant daughter to read off a computer screen in a chair rather than mommy sitting in bed reading a book to her?
All I’m saying is that people don’t go to the library anymore for informational purposes. Its much easier to find what your looking for online. 20 years ago if you wanted and answer to something you had no choice but to go to the library. It was the general publics only source to general information. The internet has changed all that. No one NEEDS to go to the library anymore. They go because they want to, and usually for personal leisure.
Hate to join the dog pile on Chris, but actually, they have computers at most libraries nowadays…..
Chris is a troll
don’t feed the troll
Greg’s right guys.
Let’s stop with the Troll Treats.
I do have to agree with Chris on some points now. Interenet had almost devestated the libraries that is why some are closing and some are reducing hours because a lot of people quit going to them. I went through college and never had to set a foot in a library because if you know where to look you can find all of the information you need on the internet. Now reading books for enjoyment is a different story, but people are getting e-readers now and those are instantly downloaed as well, and I hear libraries are even going to offer that service as well
Somewhat agree with Chris. NOT THAT THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE OP. Off topic is annoying me today. (And his was just a remark, not a rant veering into OT… Digi) I don’t use the library to find out whether a Koala is a bear. But yeah, if I want to learn more about the Civil War, I’ll check out some books recommended to me. Not to mention fiction, and movies, and CDs. Cause I’m kinda cheap. And I’m not going to be ordering the Tarzan soundtrack from iTunes if it’s in my freaking library. To the OP, you should start unplugging her monitor from the computer just enough so it looks like it’s plugged in, but of course, isn’t. Stupid crap like that WILL make you feel better.
P.S. It’s a marsupial.
Chris, you might try checking out a few books on punctuation, the difference between “their”, “there”, and “they’re”, and “your and “you’re’. Bet you don’t know about “its” and “it’s”, either. Yeesh.
These days, the library is the only FREE thing left anymore..(depending your city i guess) alot of people who dont have the luxury of owning a computer use the library computers. Instead of going to the bookstore, they can find the same book FREE and if they really like it they will go buy it..
I go to the library alot. especially when i want to be alone. i take my ipod, get a pile of books and find a corner and read. They dont care how long you are there. as long you dont interupt anyone you can be there all day.. even better its A/C!!
