The Animated Boss

My boss just got a new boss.

His first week with us has been spent calling meetings to demand we
work harder.

We just finished a 2 hour online meeting, where he showed us
amazingly productive things like how to put an animated gif in our
company profiles.

Unfortunately, when he brought up his screen for the demo, he had it
set to porno. I guess we all know what he is working hard at from his
home office on a Friday afternoon.

Must be nice to be the boss.

Real Or Fake?

One day last week we were really busy at work. I was in charge of
answering the phones and I had asked my boss if he could watch the
phones while I ran to the ladies room.

He refused and told me it was my job and that if the phone rang more
than 3 times I was fired.

Needless to say I could not hold it in any longer. I passed gas and
was totally embarrassed. I ran to the bathroom crying and just as I
went to pull my panties down I had another huge fart and crapped my
panties. I didn’t know what to do, so I threw them out and put my pants
back on and had to work the rest of the day with no underwear on!

I got back to my desk and my boss told me the phone rang and rang and
that I was fired! I was so pissed and explained what happened but he
didn’t believe me! I went back to the restroom and got my soiled
panties and showed him. He laughed at me so I shoved them in his face
and ran out the door. I had forgotten my purse so I tried to sneak
back inside. When I went by his office he was sitting there sniffing
my dirty panties!

Part Time = Full Time

Okay, well, I know everyone has the worst boss. My old one could
probably rank up there. I am still with the same company, but when I
first started, I had this woman who thought that everyone was racist.
She also never answered her phone and I had to play phone tag with
her. Initially I was hired by her as a part time employee (I had just
finished college and wanted to keep my options open). I took a 5 week
training course, and by the time I was done I was told there was no
such thing as part time in this department. They made me work
mandatory overtime (10 hour days or more) and didn’t give me the
benefits of a full time person. My boss refused to help take care of
it. I could never find her. The worst was when my wife had her baby
(the reason I took the job in the first place, since it was fairly
high paying for an entry level job). Well, I called in to let my
company know. She apparently didn’t get the message and kept calling
my home phone (while I was in the hospital). We went in on Tuesday
and got home by Friday. There were messages every day wondering when
I was going to get her a copy of the birth certificate, etc, etc. She
finally got me on the phone at home that Friday. I sat down on my bed
while I spoke with her and she asked me why I hadn’t gotten her the
birth certificate the day my kid was born. I said I was sort of busy
in the hospital. She then chewed me out saying I was too young to
have this sort of responsibility and too naive. I was young, but
definately smarter than she ever will be or was. The worst part about
this whole thing is I was so upset I deleted all of her condescending
messages she left on my answering machine, otherwise, as my coworkers
told me, I could’ve had a pretty good descrimination case against her.
Oh well, my son is now 13 years old and that is ancient history. Not
that I forgot about it…

Packets

In 2009, after being laid off twice, I found a wonderful job with the
best group of people I have ever worked with (boss included!). I
received an outstanding performance appraisal and several awards my
first year. Shortly after I hit the one year mark, I accepted a
position in another section of the organization for more money. I
REALLY needed the money, or I never would have left this great group
of people. But, I was behind on the mortgage, and had to do what I
had to do. Everyone warned me NOT to take this job, the people were
difficult, they would make my life miserable. But I figured I’ve
worked with difficult people before, I’m sure I can handle
it…besides, I needed the money.

The people here are TOTAL micromanagers, with huge attitude problems.
No concept of work/life balance…and I’m a VERY hard worker. Nearly
every single person is looking for another job (but the fact that
they purposely give bad reviews because all the people trying to
leave makes them look bad doesn’t help), from support staff to senior
level attorneys. But the clincher was when I slipped and fell in the
building in February, injured my knee and herniated a disc in my
back. I was out on Worker’s comp for six weeks before returning to
work.

In the two months I’ve been back, they have made my life hell. For
example, we get these large packets each week (1-2 per week usually)
that must be filed. Each one takes a couple of hours to file, but
it’s so mentally/physically tedious that I usually do it in segments
over the course of a few days. When I left, they were up to date.
When I returned from Worker’s comp, none had been filed since I had
left. There were nearly a dozen of them. My supervisor has been
riding me to get them done, and I am trying to get them done as fast
as I can, but I’m in a lot of pain and can’t get them done as fast as
she wants (I have doctor’s notes accounting for limitations at work,
she seems to ignore this). She says it’s my job and my
responsibility; I told her I understand that, but since she is the
manager of the office (micromanager at that…), she should have made
sure they were filed during my extended absence. After all, other work
somehow managed to be completed while I was out. I’ve been doing them
at my normal pace, but this is not enough for her. She is trying to
force me to do one packet per day, which I have told her is
impossible due to the amount of pain I am in. She ignores every bit
of it, and yesterday actually said to me “I don’t understand how you
are even able to sit at your desk and type if you are in too much
pain to do this”. !!!!! She doesn’t put anything into writing, so I
document all of our conversations and email them back to her. If she
wanted to disagree with them, she could email me back, but she
hasn’t. Today I filed a greivance for her harrassment of me while I
am (temporarily, I hope) partially disabled. As I said, I’m not
refusing to do the work, but I can not do them as fast as she wants
me to because I’m in too much pain. If she had done her job and
gotten coverage for them during my absence (which is normally what is
done), we wouldn’t be behind at all since I’m still filing 1-2 per
week now.
