Shit The Bed

I was a manager of a tanning salon and one afternoon myself and my
coworkers noticed a horrible smell coming from one of the back rooms.
I assumed someone had just farted. So we got the air freshener and
sprayed the hallways. About 20 minutes later one of my employees came
up to me and said “You need to see this.”

I went into one of the rooms and this woman had pooped ALL over the
tanning bed, the floor, peed on the rug and wiped with the
complimentary towel and thrown it behind the bed. No one could enter
the room without gagging. We spent 30 minutes cleaning up shit with
garbage bags and gloves and sterilizing with bleach.

I called my district manager and told her about the incident and
that I had banned this lady from the salon and she basically scolded
me, said I was being dramatic and said “Now that’s taking
it to the extreme.”

  1. Perhaps the district manager would like to be the one who has to clean up if this lady is allowed to use the premises again. Good for you for making the right call.

  3. i assume this person had an accident and didnt purposely shit and piss all over the place. so yeah, you shouldn’t ban someone because of that. we had a guy come in at a restaurant i used to work at who would shit his pants but we never banned him.

but i can’t really imagine why this woman would EVER show her face at your salon again anyways.

  5. I don’t care if it was an accident, at least this person could have crapped and peed in a central location like a garbage can or at least not all over the tanning bed and floor. And if I were the owner of a restaurant I would ban someone for constantly coming in and shitting their pants because that’s horribly disgusting and no one wants to smell that while they are eating. I am 100% behind you on banning her, did she try to come back?

  7. Wow, so someone shit in a tanning bed and all over the room, you clean it up, ban the woman, and your district manager says you’re being dramatic? How would she like to clean it up? Or have it all over her office? God why do people do such nasty things? And if it was an accident, she could have cleaned it up better than throwing a towel behind the bed and leaving the stink in there. And even if it was embarassing, she could have said something.

This is one of the many reasons I avoid tanning beds at all costs…you never know who or what has been in them and if they’ve been cleaned.

  9. @kristen, i can’t see too many excuses for the person in question crapping & pee’ing all over the place. me personally, i think the customer would have to have one convincing excuse for making such a mess, before i would allow them back.

  11. kristen….once again you are a complete idiot. IF the woman had lost control of her bowels and hadn’t tried to hide the shit and run off, I would obviously be sympathetic……shit happens. But she burned that bridge. She probably would have been too embarrassed anyway to ever go back into that place.

  13. What? What do you mean you banned the lady from the salon? She is a paying customer and if she wants to shit everywhere you just smile and clean it up! The customer is ALWAYS right, even if she shits all over. You got it? Now go clean the bed in room 7.And don’t forget to smile shitwiper!

  15. I call bs. Don’t these beds get cleaned after each time they are used if no thats nasty if so then you should have cought her before she left the place and called the police

  17. Hey shitstorm, customer isnt always right.

First thing they teach you in business management.

  19. I would have explained to the DM that you are losing money. If this is a salon where you only have one person working at a time you will have to close the entire salon while you are in one of the rooms cleaning the mess, you can’t just have people walking in and out without someone at the front desk. If you work at a salon where there is more than one person you will still be losing money because that bed will be shut down for a half hour plus. Unless this is a very regular your company would be losing money by leting her walk into your salon.

Ed- It really depends on the tanning salon about their cleaning procedure. Some make the customer clean the bed themselves while others have someone clean the bed for them. I personally like the salons that the customer cleans the bed because when I tan I clean it before and after I use it.

Kristen- Your restaurant is losing money too because if I went out to eat so spend my hard earned money and I smelled poo(anywhere other than the restroom) I would NEVER go back there again. I am sure that I am not the only person who feels this way.

  21. My motto is “The customer is rarely if ever right.” and it’s actually quite true.

  23. @Jessica: Sarcasm – a basic concept they teach you in HS English. Shitstorm was being facetious.

@Ed – How soon after a customer walks out the door also depends on how busy they are as well. Just because a customer vacates a bed doesn’t mean that the staff charges in and cleans right away also, it might take them a few moments to get to it. Also, once the customer is done, they pretty much leave the room and walk right out the front door as they’re done paying and all that before they go in.

I worked for Lowe’s several years ago and someone came in and crapped all over the stalls in three different stalls. We literally ran a hose from the supply closet where the mop was to the stalls and hosed the bathrooms down.

  25. How does one “accidentally” shit all over the place? And…if one does accidentally shit all over the place then why would they not at least attempt to clean it up?

  26. Jane on July 7th, 2010
  27. As I much as I wish to think this was on accident, having worked at a tanner I am totally aware that people will urinate and defecate in the rooms or wastebaskets so that they don’t lose any of their tanning minutes AND we weren’t allowed to do anything about it. That job didn’t last very long…

  29. I don’t know what your DM was thinking, unless she had some background with a person with a similar problem. Generally it cannot be an accident if they try to pain the room with their excrement. I think most people can agree.

    Holy cow.
