I work for a state agency but I am a contractor on a federal project.
Just recently our boss sat us down, told us the state is no longer
allowing contractors to work at their facilities and our project is
done. He told us we may have a month left and wanted to give us a
“heads up” so we could save money. He then went on to tell us how
hard it has been to have known this and kept it from us for the last
FIVE months. But not to worry: the good news is he can start
collecting retirement, has paid off his mortgage and his only child
will now be eligible for tuition assistance when they go to college
next year. The rest of us are under 40, have kids, a mortgage, and
are still paying off our own student loans.
I guess you’ve never held a position of actual authority in management to know that sometimes your boss is not within his/her power to tell you everything he would like to.
I am sorry that happened to you.
EM – I have been in that position, and there is a much better way to tell your employees…for starters, I would not have said I knew for five months…
Wow how sad..I hope u find something better
I got laid off in June 2006 and the boss told me that hey – I can take the summer off. Yeah – my bank will just let my mortgage slide.
my boss kept overbidding jobs, or completely ignoring solicitations for projects, but wouldn’t admit that he was cloing our business…turned out, he was in the final selection for an agency job that he eventully got…so he went on to a great job with benes (got rid of the headache that small business ownership represented) but not before he went on a 3 week international vacation…and we spent that time packing up and closing out the business…but that’s the beauty of being the boss…
hahaha Suckers.
Yea. He shouldnt have let you in on that. But dude its not his fault if he is old enough to retire and has his finances in order.
