There Is Hope

I come here and read about all the terrible bosses and it always makes
me feel better about mine. But I can truly say I have the best boss.

On Wednesday (1/2) my sister…best friend…partner in crime…died
very unexpectedly. I have been devastated.

My boss had been really encouraging while my sister was fighting her
war and winning – letting me work from her room instead of taking time
off, and even letting me work from Chicago for 2 weeks instead of here
on the East Coast. She just said I would be “working off site.”

Last night, a catered dinner showed up for me and my family. She had
arranged it with my co-workers and then made sure it was all taken
care of.

She offered to take me to lunch on Friday to make sure I got out of
the house and was ready to lend whatever hand was needed, including
making sure that my work projects were being picked up by other
co-workers.

Best. Boss. Ever

  1. Wow. Even this cynic has to admit your boss is cool, OP.

And sorry about the loss of your sister.

  3. It’s good to have a boss who truly cares, not one who just acts like it.

  15. Oh man, hey OP. I’m sorry you had to suffer that kind of loss. It’s tragic.

Not to make light of your sorrow, but you know what else is tragic? My infected in-grown toenail. It’s to the point where it’s now festering and has pus oozing out. It’s kind of gross and smelly but it reminds me of hummus. LOL! I guess I’m just getting hungry!

  17. My boss is pretty cool, too. He just sent out an email letting us all know we get Buckwheat’s birthday off, with pay, on Monday. We don’t normally get minor holidays off.

  31. Zephyr, you should do what I do…read the commentor’s name before you read the comment. I have absolutely no idea what Disgusting Dan or Flip say, because I don’t ever read any comments from them. I learned my lesson while reading comments and eating lunch simultaneously. Never again.

  33. I was asking half-facetiously. Dan is another “sway-to-theme” poster, like Casey Anthony. Casey does “This topic is totally related to how I killed my daughter and got away with it. I’ll explain.” Dan is “This topic is totally related to something disgusting! Here, let me show you how.”

It was funny in a trollish way the first two or three times. After that, the schtick got stale. I suppose Dan is a text version of the old “goatse” or “tubgirl” trolls. (If you don’t know what those are, DO NOT Google them!)

  35. Very sorry to read of your beloved sister’s demise, OP. I’ve two sisters that I love very much – there are a few years between us, but we were always there for each other in what was not exactly a textbook American Dream childhood. They’re both older than I, and I can’t bring myself to even consider either of their passing. We’ve listened to one another & stayed close through all the years, trials, and tribulations. I’m a lucky fellow to share their love.
Your tale gives me, and hopefully all who follow this blog, a bit of hope that not all bosses in our collective work environments are insensitive, selfish, goal-driven monsters; but that awash amidst the sea of mediocrity & narcissism are a few good people who know how to treat their employees with respect. Reading the posts on here has motivated me to treat my staff with more dignity & appreciation than I probably would have otherwise. In that respect, I believe it to be invaluable.
Please do your best to ignore the would-be comedians & trolls who post nonsense or outright insults regarding others. The lot of us think, and feel, and work hard every day, the same as you. Kudos to your boss, who offered condolences & help during a very difficult time in your life. He or she is surely an example to which we can all aspire.
Cheers from Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA.

  37. Fuck shit Satan death, sex drugs rape.

    That was for you, Barb.

  38. Flip on January 17th, 2013
  39. Sorry for your loss

  41. Oh, I’m real sorry about your sister, OP. I know how hard that is but it DOES get easier.

Now for the morality patrol on here: I laugh at Disgusting Dan. I don’t know what that says about me but that fucker cracks me up every time. So does Casey Anthony and once in a great while Joachim, but mostly he’s an idiot that can’t type or express a coherent thought. Kinda like Koko the gorilla flailing at the keyboard.
