When I was 18, I worked for a natural foods store. It was a great job
and i loved the work and my coworkers. A few months in, a new
assistant manager transferred in, and she was, to put it bluntly, a
bitch. One morning I was on my way to work in the rain, took a corner
too fast and got in a bad car wreck which totalled my car. Luckily, I
was uninjured. I called in to let them know what happened, and her
first response was “Well, are you somewhere that you could take a bus
and get in today?” I was shocked, no inquiry as to whether or not I
was injured or not, no sympathy for totalling my car. I ended up
transferring to another store a few months later.
Well, did you make it into work that day?
Business is business. Emotions don’t belong in it.
Why would you expect sympathy for totaling your car? You admitted that you were driving too fast for conditions. Slow down and use your head next time and you won’t have this type of predicament.
Why would you expect sympathy from someone who doesn’t know you?
Stop driving like a dumb shit and get your ass to work.
A bit cold yes but a perfectly reasonable question, after all if you weren’t going to make it in a replacement would have to be called and there are plenty of people with enough of a work ethic to show up once the details of the wreck have been wrapped up if they weren’t seriously harmed.
hey, this site is supposed to be for fun, and for ranting about crap managers. Get over yourselves and stop being so judgemental
Why do you people bash these stories so much? People have feelings and we know our boss doesn’t have to show any concern for us. But that doesn’t mean we are not allowed to be shocked at having a heartless boss. These stories and this site is for people to vent about their bosses being jerks. Show some support! And if you happen to be a jackass boss, STFU!
You’re the kind of jerk that would spin out of control, hit my car and make me late for work.
Stop driving like a tard.
I have to agree with the first few commenters. They aren’t closing the store in honor of your stupidity, and your boss could easily tell you were uninjured since you called in yourself and you didn’t lead off by mentioning any injuries (since there apparently weren’t any). She has a right to expect you to attempt to make your scheduled shift. It amazes me how many people think the rest of the world stops because they’ve inconvenienced themselves with self-inflictected idiocy.
Come on, people. If someone I worked with were in a car accident the first thing I would want to know is if they were OK. There is nothing unbusinesslike about simple human decency.
Let the poster vent; which is what this site is intended for. Some of y’all are pretty cold-hearted.
@ heywood, they only took the corner too fast, doesn’t mean they were driving too fast. And before I get told off for being stupid, you’re supposed to slow down before making a turn, OP could have just not slowed down enough (or at all) before turning the corner.
Why would you expect sympathy for totalling your car? You did it. Sympathy is for people who are victims of something (be it other people or circumstance). Sympathy is not for people who do stupid shit like take a corner to fast and then have to deal with the consequences of their own actions.
