In 1991 I got pregnant. Unplanned, but not unwanted. My boss tried to
get me to confide in her, because she thought I was making a poor
decision in not terminating the pregnancy. She actually came out and
said that my pregnancy was impacting her negatively (on the job), and
that I should consider having an abortion.
Admittedly, I took some sick hours because I was terribly nauseated
around the clock, for a few months. But they were my hours to take.
The last day I worked for her, she started to chew me out for
something, so I stood up and walked down the hallway to where the
timeclock was, to punch out and quit. In full view and hearing of
patients (we worked in a medical clinic) and staff, she followed me
down the hall, shouting, “This is very unprofessional! You need to
talk about this!”
In a quiet, even tone, as I signed my timecard and handed it to her,
I responded, “Yes, it is unprofessional, and no, I don’t need to talk
about it. But you seem to need to.” I turned around and walked out.
The next day I had an interview with a local municipal government,
and started working the following day making $2 more an hour. I
worked there all through my pregnancy, and when I came back from
maternity leave, they hired me as a regular employee. I worked there
for five more years.

It’s horrible how some bosses think they are God and should control another’s life, especially when it comes to something like pregnancy.
Actually, you were unprofessional. Beware the trolls, for they will eat you alive.
Wow, what a c*nt. You were right to leave the way you did, way to go!
i think this person handled it the best possible way she could have. you have certain protections under the law, regarding work place rules & pregnancies. the boss can’t make anyone have an abortion, just because it’s inconveniant for the boss or the company.
also, if bosses have an issue with somone, there is a RIGHT WAY & a WRONG WAY to deal with it.
Fogg, I dont know what you are smoking, but I hope no one else gets ahold of it. OP acted very professional by keeping a cool head and not tearing this woman with a god complex apart in front of the entire office and its customers.
I will never understand why so many women, especially female managers, think they have a right to be involved in the personal lives of their female employees/co-workers. Men seem to be better at relating to each other on a work-only basis. Sorry if that seems sexist but I have seen it over and over again.
Wonder how ADFogg thinks the OP was unprofessional? For having sex with someone other than him?
She probably wouldn’t have; trolls are so unattractive.
I can see how she was being unprofessional. She didn’t give notice, when she quit. But… that’s kind of it.
haha
